Robin and Nicolas come from very different backgrounds and
cultures.  Robin, grew up in a very small rural community, her
cultural heritage includes, English, German and Dutch.  Nico’s
parents immigrated to the US from Colombia in the 1970’s.  He
grew up speaking Spanish and English, in the same small city we
currently live.  Nico spent most summers in Colombia enjoying
his huge extended family.  Robin’s extended family is also very
close.  In fact most of them still live in her hometown.  Her
upbringing was classic country living, big home cooked meals,
big family reunions, and great big open farmland!
We feel that because of our different childhoods, we have much
to offer to our children.  We can spend a quiet weekend,
enjoying nature (including the wonderful scent of cows!) with
Robin’s family. Or we can embrace Nico’s heritage by teaching
our girls spanish, eating ajiaco (a typical Colombian stew) or
celebrating the Novena, starting nine days before Christmas.
